Mayor's Corner

Mayor’s corner by Greg “Porp” Rogers

Things have been very busy at 3 W. Main. We are in the process of negotiation with the DPW union, this is not an easy chore for anyone. We are also pursuing numerous grants to get things done at less of a cost. First is our NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities Program grant as we had already qualified from previous work we had done on street lights and the waste water treatment plant, has qualified us for at least $10,000 with more to come. Part of this is to put electric charging stations in different spots around our community. We also got a $90,000 grant for security cameras to be placed in certain areas of the village. We are in the process of completing the NY SWIMS grant in hope to get much pool infrastructure done and change to a salt water pool, this has been a long-time dream.

I attended a Pro Housing seminar in Geneseo last week to learn how we can become a Pro Housing Community. This certification unlocks many new housing grant opportunities we will keep reaching out for that.

We are in the process of hiring a firm to assist with the updating of the Village Comprehensive Plan, we have the number almost cut in half of the projected $25K.

The Village Board has passed a resolution for this year to not charge a sewer tax on the first 1000 gallons of water used in the June, July, August cycle. This is to try to offset some of the cost of filling pools and watering lawns and flowers. We know this is not a big deal, but we are trying to help in any way possible.

I will try to keep you updated on our progress. The next Comprehensive Plan meeting will be July 1, 2024 at 7:00pm in the Village Hall, all are welcome.
