Mayor’s Corner by Greg “Porp” Rogers
On January 13th we held an open to the public workshop on the comprehensive plan update at the Memorial Auditorium. I would like to thank Merritt Holley for all his help and support, it was a great venue to host this meeting that joins the past with our future. While we did experience technical difficulties Jenny Lowenstein did a great job of getting us rolling again after the holiday. The next meeting will be back at the Village Hall on February 20th at 6:00.
It is with much regret that I tell you Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Katie Eick will be leaving us to take a position at GCC. If you have ever had the pleasure of dealing with Katie you can understand our loss. Katie was a jack of all trades around the office and always willing to take on more. Smart, funny and a diligent worker were the traits she brought to work every day. GCC got a gem, we wish Katie the best on this new opportunity and hope she and her family stays right here in LeRoy. We also have the resignation of Dick Green as the Rte. 5 and 19 crossing guard. I would pass him everyday on my way to work, get a big smile and wave, but I knew there was nobody I’d rather trust than him crossing our kids at that busy corner. Personally, I’m just going to miss having him around, and as I write this article the temperature is -2, he would have loved today.
At our last board meeting, the board passed a resolution to apply for a grant to study the possibility and the benefits of consolidating governments. We plan on doing this with the town and using grant writing dollars put forth by the county legislature. It is very early in the process, and know there will be a ton of questions, so please give us time to go through the process so we can give you the answers you deserve to hear.
