Mayor’s Corner by Greg “Porp” Rogers
In an effort to make travel around LeRoy a little easier for the Saturday of Oatkafest we will be making some changes. Saturday morning Craige St will have parking on 1 side only.
Church St. will be 1 way traffic going North to St. Marks. North St. will be 1 way from St. Marks to Main going South. South St. will be 1 way going South to Bradnell. This will be for Saturday only. Additional handicap parking will be in the school parking lot. With the added people out this weekend it is bound to cause some inconveniences. Please be patient, everyone is trying to make it better.
The question has been posed why are there no garbage can in our parks? About 15 years ago the Village Board made all village parks a carry in/ carry out, meaning if you bring in things that are going to be garbage, it is your responsibility to take it with you when you go. If you ask why? It was garbage cans where being filled by people who did not want to buy garbage stickers.
This past week, we also saw great cooperation between the county, town, and the city of Batavia. It’s encouraging to see neighboring municipalities working together for the greater good.
For example, a high-speed chase involving a stolen car and illegal firearms — with a suspect who had been arrested just 8 days earlier for the same offense and released — was brought to a safe resolution thanks to the collaborative efforts of the LeRoy PD, Batavia PD, and the County Sheriff’s Office. On behalf of our entire community, Chief Greg Kellogg and I would like to thank Sheriff Graff, Batavia Police Chief Heubusch, and their teams for their outstanding work.
The County and the Town of LeRoy worked together with the Village DPW to repave South, North and Church St. This sharing of resources makes things work better throughout the whole county.
